Mary Lynn Whitacre and her husband had a near-miss a few days ago when their beloved pet, a Lab mix, bolted from home when they heard fireworks in the neighborhood. Rajah, like any other dog, was terrified by the continual sound of explosions, and in the middle of the chaos, he managed to escape his house.
The family, who had recently moved into their new home in South Carolina, were enjoying the day when their neighbor let off fireworks, frightening Rajah, who hopped over the fence and wandered away from the house, away from the sight of his smaller sister, a two-month-old dog.
Following the incident, Mary posted a request on her Facebook page for help in locating her beloved missing pet, writing:
“Rajah, our beautiful puppy, was startled by the fireworks tonight and bolted from our backyard… She is microchipped and has a tag with our phone numbers on her collar. She’s undoubtedly terrified, but she’s really sweet! Thanks!!”.
After becoming lost, the dog rings the bell around 3 a.m.
Mary got in her car and drove around her neighborhood seeking for any trace of her cat, but she couldn’t find her. Ryan, the woman’s husband, went for a walk in the search of getting his pet canine, but he, also, came up empty-handed.
They tried contacting local shelters late at night in case they had spotted Rajah walking the streets alone. The bereft couple went home, hoping that their dog would find her way back to them.
Mary told her neigboor:
“When my husband got home, I was driving around looking for her. We were about to contact all of the shelter numbers when she came and rang the bell.
Around 3 a.m., the brave puppy was at the front door of her house, ringing the doorbell with her nose and looking through the camera that her parents had placed.
Rajah’s adoptive mother further said:
I’m not sure how he managed to achieve it. I’ve never showed you how to do it before. She never sees us use the doorbell since she never goes out to the front yard except to get in the car. Ryan was keeping his fingers crossed that he would show up. He spotted her on the porch and dashed outside to find her.
Following the horrific experience, the dog’s mother posted a video of her furry buddy coming home on the social media site Reddit, which soon went viral.
Rajah had apparently had some fun while she was away from home, since she was covered in thorns and extremely filthy, and her mother believed she had a lot of fun.
Mary concluded by saying:
“She was unhappy and sulky because she believed she was in so much trouble, but we just thought, ‘We’re just glad you’re back.’” We couldn’t stop laughing because it was so funny.
