Every dog in a shelter hopes to find their very own forever home, and while shelters make every effort to do so, adoption isn’t always simple. Some animals take a very long time to find the ideal home, and occasionally adoptions go sour.
Last week, we shared the story of Ronald, a dog that had a particularly awful “unlucky streak” after 14 adoption attempts failed. But he never gave up. and now this lovely dog has finally found a home!
On January 11, SPCA of Wake County shared Ronald’s story. Although Ronald only weighs 63 pounds, he is a “big boy” with a massive frame who may have been “too big/strong” for some families, particularly those with little children. They believe that Ronald’s several unsuccessful attempts to find a home were caused by his large size.
They also called Ronald a “huge puppy” who will stand up on his paws and put his paws on you when he gets excited or “get a little mouthy.”
Although Ronald might have been a touch “too much” dog for some families, the SPCA was sure that there was someone out there for whom he would make the ideal friend.
“Ronald is completely nice, understands his orders, and accepts rewards very softly. He really is a really good boy, the SPCA wrote. “He’ll be a great pupil for any training because he enjoys getting treats and doing his tricks.”
Ronald’s luck, thankfully, quickly improved. His story went viral, and many individuals expressed interest in adopting him, to the point that the shelter was “maxed out” on adoption requests.
“His whole bad luck streak changed around pretty quickly,” SPCA spokeswoman Samantha Ranlet told WRAL. “We’re so overwhelmed.”
The SPCA recently revealed an amazing update to the story, stating that “Ronald’s bad luck streak has officially ended.”
“His new family reports he is doing so great with the kids, and they are just infatuated with him,” the SPCA wrote. They shared pictures of Ronald with his new family and confirmed that he was adjusting well.
Ronald appears to have found success with adoption after 14 attempts failed. The good news and the overwhelming show of support for Ronald made the SPCA very happy.
“Thank you all so much for sharing Ronald’s story – we were overwhelmed by your words of support and wonderful offers to help him,” they wrote on Facebook. “Ronald was able to reach approximately a million individuals on the first day because to the broad distribution of your shares. His entire environment abruptly and drastically altered. The power you all have to alter a life with the power of your keyboard never ceases to surprise us!
